I've found that shea butter looses its sort of nutty/buttery smell and seems kind of neutral before it goes off. For me, it stayed kind of bland for about 6 weeks and then went to urrgghh, nasty ammonia smell from one week to the next (then it went into the bin in a hurry)

So sorry about your job, but focus on the positives, like you get to make more soap.
