Working with oxides - 2009/10/07 12:27 Hey, guys, I haven't been around much lately. Not much soapmaking, either. I broke my ankle at Thanksgiving, and have had some complications for that.

Anyway, I'm trying to learn to make black soap. I have some really cool cat molds, and I'd like to make black cats for Halloween. (Or any other time, for the customers who like black cats.)

I know you have to be careful with the amount, so as not to get black lather, but is there a preferred way to add it to the soap? The first time I tried, I mixed some of the oxide with some olive oil, and added it with an eyedropper. I got as far as dark grey, but no black.

Is there a better way to add it? Any ideas on amount, per pound?

Thanks for the help.
