Re:excessive sweating when using soap! - 2009/04/05 19:55 Lala, the advise Joe and Denise have given you is good.

A few tips that may help-
1. try the "Holy Trinity" of oils, Coconut,Palm Oil and olive oil. Keep the coconut to around 25-30% Palm around 20% and the rest olive. This is a good balanced bar that you can compare all others too.

2. Are you letting your soaps cure for the full 4 weeks? Are they in a dry area with low humidity/dampness. Your soap is less like to "slime" if its properly cured in a dry area.

3. And right on with the superfat. Over 6% and your bar will get soft and slimier.

4. Learn about the qualities of individual oils and what they can add to the bar. Coconut will add firmness and cleansing, palm adds hardness, conditioning and bulk, olive is good for everything (just not on its own)

5. Olive is a weird oil, in pure Castile soaps it starts off as a slimey and a soft bar but if you let it cure for at least 6 months (ie if you forget about it in a back cupboard it will end up as a rock hard bar. Most people cant wait that long so they make a "Bastile Bar" (stands for Bastardised Castile) which is normally something like 25% coconut - for hardness and lather, 5% castor for lather and big bubbles and 70% olive oil for the conditioning.

I personally have a love hate relationship with Canola. I like the conditioning effect in a bar of soap, I like the way it slows down trace, giving me more time to swirl etc. I like the fact that its cheap. But the @#$%%$ crap always gets DOS, the last time it went spotty in less than 4 freakin weeks!
So I have sworn off Canola forever.

Anyhow have fun and let us know how your going. I enjoy talking about soap almost as much as making it.

cheers
Belle
