Help! My soap is feeling TOO squeaky clean - 2009/12/02 13:39 Ok, so I'm a fairly new soaper. I tend to weigh heavy on the lye because my first batch went to my mother who said she liked the squeaky clean feeling of that batch. That being said, now I'm trying out a batch in the shower, but it feels TOO squeaky clean. I don't know if that is because of the amount of lye or that it needs more cure time (it's only been 3 weeks, I know it should cure longer, but will that help it feel "not so squeaky clean"). Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It has a weird feeling on my skin that I'm not too fond of. WILL IT CHANGE? Or will the soap stay feeling this way?

Re:Help! My soap is feeling TOO squeaky clean - 2009/12/04 02:13 Hey 2boyz,

"Too squeaky clean". Hmmmm. Might be that you are cutting it pretty close on your lye vs: oil. If you posted your recipie I could give you a more informed opinion. Are you supper fatting at all? I usually go for 4 or 5%. Also, you mean your skin actually squeaks? Interesting. I've heard of hair being that way but not skin. I don't think I would like that either. Sounds like the soap is stripping off all the oil on your skin. That will just make your skin produce oil like crazy I'm thinking.

Hope to hear from you....

Re:Help! My soap is feeling TOO squeaky clean - 2009/12/05 15:44 You're using too much lye! Your soap will get milder over time but not much. If it feels that uncomfortable to you you should not use it! Like Joe said, you should be using at least a 4% lye discount, I use 5% and it still makes my skin "squeaky clean". Post your recipe for us to check or run it through a lye calculator! Better safe than sorry! Denise
