Re:what's really bad about taking a break! - 2010/11/14 05:31 HI!!
Alot of EO's will be fine for a very long time, specially if you have them in dark bottles in a cool place. Getting back to soap huh? I have been checking here often and it's dead... need to get some soapers resurrected. Am making some soap this week, but not sure what, maybe some Rosemary Mint.. Made some acne soap and unscented oatmeal a few weeks ago, but I use these in my business.
Good to finally have someone on the board..
Getting organized feels good.. have a great day.

Re:what's really bad about taking a break! - 2010/11/14 06:35 hi debbiegms!! i thought i was going to restart back at the beginning of the year..forgot my user password here and resurrected as puppy2!!
yes, it seems my eo's and scents are fine, and additives are good, but butters and oils...tossed.

you have any thoughts on where we stand with the safe cosmetic act of 2010? that will totally mess up homemade products. and i cant find a definitive answer on whether soap will be in that or not..re fda soap is not a cosmetic..but the act is so broad it could be. if it goes through, i'm done

and this kind of labelling will kill us

http://www.soapguild.org/blog/2010/08/from-the-president-dc-advocacy-trip-follow-up-safe-cosmetics- act/#comments

the most impossible thing is ANY variation in a recipe, ie scent, oil used, etc and you cant do it..all recipes have to be registered..so that special request cant be done.

they havent determined the lab testing for safety criteria yet, but no way can you test each batch of 12 soap bars and be cost effective.

How long can you keep your oils and butters if they are in the fridge?

Re:what's really bad about taking a break! - 2010/11/19 14:52 i dont really know diane! that's why i was wishing they had expiration dates on them, but i threw most away as they were over a year old. i would think the fridge would make them last a bit longer.

as a side note..thinking about maybe doing some candles... can you use the same fragrance oils??
